Explore Livingston Coalition is three separate groups with individual missions, funding sources, regulations, and boards who work together under the nonprofit status of the Livingston Business Improvement District (LBID) with one Executive Director, as is required by state regulations. This Coalition was formed following the City’s open Request for Proposals when the LBID was awarded the contract the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) and Convention Visitors Bureau (renamed Destination Management Organizations/DMOs by the Department of Commerce) and begun work in July 2020. See the organization chart and more details here. The Livingston Area Chamber remains the Visitors Information Center which is funded by bed tax dollars and support from Yellowstone Country, our region’s tourism organization. Explore Livingston’s platforms are Explore Livingston Mt and Downtown Livingston, the Chambers are Visit Livingston and Livingston Chamber.
The Explore Livingston Coalition shared goal is to promote a sustainable, year-round economy in Livingston that preserves quality of life for locals and quality of experience for visitors. Explore Livingston has coordinated branding and a tourism information website with weekly updates on an event calendar and ever-changing area restaurants and hospitality businesses and resources. The top two web pages visited are Events and Restaurants. We print and distribute monthly large format event calendars and pocket visitors guides with QR codes to the website.
Tourism is the largest economic driver in Park County. Tourism districts and bed tax dollars benefit the local economy, are locally led, and do not require any funds from locals to pay for projects or services. Visitors who stay in hotels in Livingston fund marketing, events, the arts, sporting events, projects like murals and more. Bed taxes (hotels and short term rentals) are used to market Livingston as a year-round destination and to provide stewardship educating visitors about responsible visitation and recreation, and strategically disperse visitors geographically and seasonally to maintain local access to favorite amenities as much as possible. Marketing Livingston in the cool season and highlighting our vibrant arts, culinary, history and literary cultures creates a more resilient year-round economy less vulnerable to weather and natural disasters, while strengthening those amenities for locals to enjoy.

About the Destination Management Organization
Destination Management Organization (DMO, formerly called Convention and Visitors Bureau/CVB) refers to a non-profit corporation organized under Montana law and recognized by a majority of the governing body in the city, consolidated city-county, resort area, or resort area district in which the bureau is located.
The State of Montana is structured into six Tourism Regions and 18 CVB's. The Tourism Regions include Central Montana, Glacier Country, Missouri River Country, Southeast Montana, Southwest Montana, and Yellowstone Country.
The Livingston CVB – Explore Livingston, is a division of the Livingston Business Improvement District and is part of the Yellowstone Country Tourism Region. It is funded through a percentage of Lodging Facility Use Tax to support the promotion of Montana's tourism and recreation industry. Explore Livingston is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors and the Montana Tourism Advisory Council who approves the allocation of the bed tax funds.
The annual Explore Livingston marketing plan serves to direct the initiatives and spending for the Livingston CVB and inform and educate the board of directors, community stakeholders, Tourism Advisory Council, and the City of Livingston.
About the Livingston Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID)
The mission of the Livingston TBID is “to enhance the economic vitality of Livingston by generating room nights for the city’s lodging facilities through effective sales and marketing strategies, building collaborative partnerships and promoting Livingston as a year-round visitor, convention, and event destination."
The Livingston TBID is funded by a flat fee of $2 per room night on individuals staying at lodging facilities within the Livingston city limits. In addition to planned marketing, grant funding is also available for events and programs that promote visitation and tourism within Livingston as specified by the Livingston TBID Board of Directors.
The Livingston TBID currently meets via Zoom the second Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am (except July and December.) If you would like to participate or give public comment, please email us at least two weeks prior to the meeting. We will be in touch to confirm with you.
